Ward Member for Singleton West, Women's Officer

Sally Gathern - Ward Member for Singleton West, Women

I have lived in Singleton since 1995 and am passionate about making our community the best it can be for everyone. I am an active Parish Councillor, listening and responding to the views of residents, and working hard on many environmental and social projects. I’m also Akela at the local Cub pack, Vice-president of Singleton WI and an active member of Singleton Community Church. In school holidays I help run the Make Lunch sessions at St Francis Church, providing fun activities and a hot meal for local families.

My 10 years as a Parish Councillor have shown me what a difference councillors can make but, at Parish level, I am limited in what I can do for Singleton. As a Borough Councillor I can now do more. My priorities for Singleton are:

  • Clean up the litter that blights our streets and green spaces
  • Support our endangered wildlife through the creation of wildflower meadows and ponds, and by planting more trees
  • Protect our community from over-development and ensure the necessary infrastructure is in place before big developments that affect Singleton go ahead

I am very aware of the cost of living crisis and the financial struggles many families are facing. Councillors at all levels of government need to ensure, now more than ever, that every penny we spend is spent wisely, making a positive difference to the community we serve.

Sally Gathern is currently the Ashford Labour Women’s Officer and stood as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the Ashford Constituency in 2017.
